Laparoscopic Silicone Band

Certified by the American Board of Surgery

The Lap-Band Copyright 1999-2001, BioEnterics Corporation)  has just been approved by the FDA.  It is very popular in Europe and Austrailia.  Data from leading experts in Europe show the resulting weight loss similar to Vertical Banded Gastroplasty but easier to perform laparoscopically.  The band is made of silicone and has a balloon that is placed around the upper part of the stomach.  The balloon is attached to a reservoir that sits on top of your abdominal muscles (under your skin) and is then accessed through a long needle after the operation.  The balloon is inflated to narrow the lumen between the upper and lower stomach . Therefore, you will have a small upper stomach that will let you feel full quickly with less food and then the oulet is adjusted to slow the transport of food to the rest of your stomach and digestive tract.
